Phase 1: It is a 1-to-3 class. Phase 1 The main focus of the course is learning how to write fluently and effectively in English with varied sentence structure, ambitious vocabulary and a variety of figurative language. There will be homework assignments in each lesson. Session 1 – Analysis What is a Narrative Text? Features of narrative texts. Lesson Objective: To identify the features of a range of narrative texts. Session 2 - Grammar Extending Sentences: Using a range of sentence openers to add detail to writing. Lesson Objective: To learn how to use different types of sentence openers to add detail to writing. Session 3 - Planning The Plot: Building the plot and structure of a short story. Lesson Objective: To learn how to plan and structure a short story, building a problem and resolution into a story. Session 4 - Writing Crafting Engaging beginnings: Reeling the reader in with an effective hook Lesson Objective: To learn how to use different types of hooks to open a story. Session 5 - Writing Sensational Settings: Writing an effective setting description by creating a picture in the reader’s mind. Lesson Objective: To learn how to write an effective setting description Session 6 - Writing Creating Characters: Writing an effective character description. Lesson Objective: To learn how to write a character description. Session 7 - Skills Figurative Language: Similes and metaphors Lesson Objective: To learn how to use simpler figurative language. Session 8 - Writing Science Fiction Writing: Writing a science fiction story. Lesson Objective: To write a science fiction story Session 9 - Writing Editing and Uplevelling: Improving and editing work Lesson Objective: To learn how to edit and improve work Session 10 - Assessment Final Assessment and Feedback Lesson Objective: To display knowledge of all you have learned
