Phase 3: 1-to-3. Phase 3 This course focuses on maths enrichment via the Junior Maths Challenges. School curricula are generally not set up to help the most advanced students which means that they are unlikely to be reaching their potential in a normal school setting. The maths challenges ask difficult questions using concepts which the students already know or can easily learn. This discipline is called problem solving and is exceptionally useful in helping develop a strong ability in maths and ability to apply it later in life to great effect. Participants will enjoy seeing their ability increase and the course will leave them better placed to achieve well in exams, compete in maths competitions and have a greater chance of being accepted into selective schools and competitive university courses. For David: My teaching style is to take the students' work and build it to a solution where possible. Maths enrichment cannot be achieved in a top-down way so for my classes all students are required to complete a maths challenge in advance then we discuss the questions and their solutions in detail. The lessons are interactive and fast in pace and we cover lots of useful material in this way. This is far more preferable for achieving good results than any attempt by the tutor to lecture the student on questions that they haven't yet attempted themselves.
