Service Description
Phase 2 1-to-4. Phase 2 content. Introduction This intensive Physics course is designed to prepare Year 11 students for their GCSE/IGCSE exams in summer 2025. Delivered online over two phases—10 hours in February half-term and 10 hours during the Easter break—it offers a comprehensive review of key topics, focusing on both conceptual understanding and exam success. The course is tailored to support students in mastering the most challenging areas of the syllabus, reinforcing their confidence through interactive teaching, problem-solving, and targeted exam practice. Through a combination of engaging demonstrations, digital simulations, and expert guidance on exam techniques, students will develop a deeper understanding of physics concepts while building the skills needed to answer exam questions effectively. This program not only reviews core topics but also addresses common pitfalls and teaches strategies to maximise exam performance. Scheme of Work Lesson 1: Particle Model of Matter (2 hours) Topics: Density, internal energy, changes of state, and specific latent heat. Activity: Virtual density calculation experiments and particle behaviour in gases. Practice: Exam questions on particle models and changes of state. Lesson 2: Nuclear Physics – Part 1 (2 hours) Key ideas: Models of the atom, types of nuclear radiation, and their properties. Demonstration: Simulations of radioactive decay and radiation penetration. Practice: Applying knowledge to identify types of radiation in past paper questions Lesson 3: Nuclear Physics – Part 2 (2 hours) Advanced concepts: Half-life, background radiation, and uses of radiation in medicine and industry. Activity: Exploring radioactive decay through interactive half-life simulators. Practice: Solving exam-style problems on half-life and radiation applications. Lesson 4: Waves and Applications (2 hours) Topics: Wave properties, reflection, refraction, and the electromagnetic spectrum. Demonstration: Virtual ripple tank experiments and ray diagram tools. Exam preparation: How to approach wave-related questions with confidence. Lesson 5: Exam Practice and Consolidation (2 hours) Comprehensive review: Mixed-topic past paper questions to solidify learning. Analysis: Identifying common errors and strategies to improve answers. Recap: Addressing any remaining weaknesses from the course
